Internship # 16

This internship was a good experience because I learn I can be patient with the little kids. That was something significant because in the beginning I though being patient was easy, but it was a little difficult because I got to work on that more.

Internship # 11

Summary of the week: 01/19-01/22

This week was a short week because we didn't went on Monday. So on Tuesday I was in the class helping the kids and my mentor, when the Kindergarten needed help with work I would go. And I would have my lower and higher group. Wednesday was a short day, I staple some paper help the kids with their project because on Wednesday is art time. In the end I stayed with mentor and help to stuff for the nest day. I did like a book for the students. That week was rainy so the students had recess inside the class. On Thursday in the morning I went to a classroom were all the books goes (not the library) to help stamp the books for the students, so they can use it. Then I went back to the classroom to help my mentor. Friday it was the same because I stay in the class to meet with my group, went to the library with them, passing things, and cleaning up.
A challenge that I got was my lower group was paying attention normally they do, but they just needed to read with me. I think because it was the first time we done reading with them and it was knew for them.
I was helping my mentor getting the kids in line for lunch and so it was windy outside and the kids were putting on their jackets. There was a kindergarten who was putting on his jacket, but he couldn't because he had something in his hand and so he told me to hold it for him while he put it on. In the end when he was done I gave back his thing back and he said" Thank you for helping me," that is something that would be memorable to me.

Summary:
I am working with one of the Kindergarten class in Sherman Elementary school. In this whole week I have been helping the students with their activities and sometimes I have a group of four students that needs help with math and English and also with the higher group. On Wednesday it was a short day for the students so I stay until 3:30 with my mentor talking and helping her do some stuff for the first day. So pretty much I do the same thing each day. In the mornings I have been going with a teacher, helping her stampings books which she is in charge of getting the books for the kids. It only takes me about an hour and half because I do a box each day. I bring my lunch everyday and my mentor, Lisbeth, Consuelo, and their mentor have lunch together in a classroom. Some challenges that I get is sometimes when I am with the group of kids and someone is not paying attention or not listening just doing what they want, but I overcome is if they don't want to be here they can go back what the others kids are doing. Also I am working to memorize each student names because sometimes I don't know all of them. I think I work with the students very well and sometimes they would call me Ms. Reyes if they need any help. Something interesting is that some of the students comes and hugs me and they tell me questions. If I would describe my internship to someone I would tell them if they like kids and have a little patients with them you would have a great time. I did like it it was an amazing experience.

1. What skills would you like to develop at your site?

2. What interests do you have regarding the work done at your site?
The interest that I have is well I am working with a kindergarten class and is just seem interesting that the students have a long period of school because normally I thought kindergartens class were shorter. So they get to learn more stuff and because they also have Spanish class and more.

3. What needs can you address (needs your mentor has, your company has, etc.) based on your skills and interests?
The thing that I like is helping out if there is something that needs to be done I can help. It doesn't matter if I need to cut or paste paper or even stamping things.

Internship #1

This is the classroom I would be working with my menter and helping the Kindergartens.

This is my mentor Amanda Fellhauer a Kindergarten teacher. She is dress with a simple shirt and jeans and because in that they we wen to the field trip so we needed to be comfortable.

These is some of the work I did which was cutting pictures and putting into the right order for the students I would be helping them.

This picture was an interesting experience for me because when we went walking to the local Albertsons the kids needed to be in a straight line so at that time the kids have a lot of energy and when crossing the street we needed to go fast. And then going back to school some were tired walking slow and tripping.

The field trip was going to the albertsons to learn about healthy and nonhealthy and so this was something that I found it interesting was learning about fruits and vegetables even though I knew about it, but I didn't know what you has something to do with your body. Like for example what I like was learning if you eat a fruit or vegetable that is red helps your heart, eating yellow or orange prevents you getting sick, the blue is your brain, and the green is for your eyes.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Economy Question?

Has the recession cause you to cut supplies for students?
There has not been a cause for that when they need stuff they sometimes order them, but right now there has been enough supplies for the students.
Has teachers been laid-off?
Last year it did affected because the school didn't need a lot of teachers and maybe there would be teachers laid-off for next year.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
I woke up at 6:30 and for breakfast I just ate an apple. To go to my internship I went walking and it was took me about 15 minutes to get there. I did like it because it was a way to start your day doing a little bit of exercise in the morning. When I arrive at my internship I went to the office to check in so there was a people in there. Then Charlie came and he was the one that took me to meet my mentor. Before class started my mentor Amanda and I were talking about they were going to a field trip so then the kids came in and they look at me. I work in the school Sherman Elementary with the Kindergartens students. The area is in a classroom which was colorful with numbers, the alphabet, books, etc. When we came back for the field trip we had lunch so I ate a sandwich with my mentor, Lisbeth, Consuelo, and their mentors in Lisbeth's mentor class. During the afternoon I stay with my mentor helping her and talking about my project, things I will be working on the past three weeks, and talking about things to know about each other. The kids left early because every Wednesday they have a minimum day.
The type of work I see myself doing in the next few days is helping the kids and my mentor like passing out stuff. Also I will be helping four students that are low and advance in math and literature.I feel prepare in helping my mentor with the students in cutting papers, passing out things, and helping them with math and literature. I am hoping I will do well in this things. I am going to learn to be patient with kindergartens because today in the morning we went to a little field trip in my first day, but it was fun a good experience and it was only for today. So on Friday it would be the first time the kids are learning. I am excited in having this experience in working with kids because is something that I wanted to try doing it. So I'm hopefully hoping that it would be great working with my mentor. But what makes me nervous is getting a long with the student and my project. I got to go to the field trip, so I didn't have a long time being with them in class. When the kids left I stay my mentor discussion about on Friday and then doing some work all the way to 3:30. I check out and got home at about 3:55. I got some rest and I am ready to go in Friday.
